Layers of the Earth

Aims

Direct Aim:  apply knowledge of the layers of the earth by recreating and identifying each layer

Indirect Aim: working collaboratively and ideating 

Materials

4 sets of natural materials that can be found on the ground (fallen leaves, berries, rocks, sticks, grass) 

Presentation

1. Review the Layers of the Earth
2. Explain: in small groups the children will work together to recreate the layers of Earth using natural materials
3. Explain: in small groups the children will share with their peers and teachers how they built the layers of the Earth

Explore

Using 4 different materials from nature recreate the layers of the earth.

Identify each layer of the earth and what and why you choose each material. For example squished berries could be the liquid inner core.
